Ways We Can Work Together and Approaches That Inform My Work

Empathy, compassion, authentic connection, and community are at the heart of my work. As a humanistic, person-centered counselor, I believe we are meant to heal and grow in community with others.

My formal training includes Adventure & Nature Therapy and Social Justice Counseling. As an integrative counselor, I also draw from approaches in which I have experience, tailoring our work to your needs, goals, interests, and preferences.

Adventure & Nature Therapy
For those who connect best through movement, nature, and hands-on experiences, our work may extend beyond the traditional therapy room. This might look like walk-and-talk sessions, incorporating nature into our sessions, using games and activities to explore emotions and relationships, or spending time in a hammock while we talk. Kayak therapy sessions are coming in Spring 2027.

Experiential Approaches
Sometimes therapy can be more hands-on and creative. Depending on what feels right for you, sessions may incorporate art, music, cooking, movement, or other activities to help explore and express what you are experiencing.

Relational-Cultural Approach
We may explore how your relationships and connections with others shape your experiences, while creating space to work through shame, feel understood, and build more authentic connections.

Attachment-Based Approach

We may explore how your early relationships and experiences have shaped the way you connect, trust, communicate, and seek support, with a focus on building safe and meaningful relationships.

Narrative Approach

We may explore the stories you have developed about yourself and your life, making space to look at those stories from a new perspective and recognize strengths and values.

Somatic Approaches

We may pay attention to what you notice in your body—such as tension, sensations, or emotions—and use gentle, body-based practices to help you connect with and understand your experiences.

Trauma-Informed Approach

We will focus on creating a sense of safety, choice, and control while being mindful of how past experiences may shape the way you feel and respond in today's environment.

Other approaches I may incorporate include Internal Family Systems (IFS) to explore different parts of yourself, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to notice patterns in thoughts and behaviors, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to explore values and move toward what matters to you, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to build skills for managing emotions, relationships, and difficult moments.
